Your number is yours.
In Costa Rica, number portability is a right. You can bring your number to Ring® — or take it elsewhere — under the regime mandated and overseen by SUTEL. We make porting in simple and we never hold your number hostage if you choose to leave.
What number portability is
Number portability lets you keep your existing telephone number when you change operators. In Costa Rica it is mandated and overseen by SUTEL, so it applies to all licensed carriers, including Ring. Your number is treated as yours to carry — not as something locked to whichever operator first assigned it.
Porting your number to Ring
If you have an eligible number with another Costa Rican operator and you are the account holder, you can port it to Ring. Here is what you need and how it works:
What you need
- The number (or numbers) you want to bring over.
- Identification of the account holder of record.
- Your current account in good standing with the donor operator.
- A Ring service to receive the number.
Steps
- Tell us the numbers you want to port and confirm you are the holder.
- We validate eligibility and prepare the porting request.
- The request is submitted and coordinated through the SUTEL portability process.
- Your numbers are activated on the Ring network with minimal interruption.
Timelines follow the windows set by SUTEL's portability rules; we coordinate the cutover to keep any service interruption to a minimum. Under the regime, there is no per-line charge to port your number.
Porting away from Ring
If you decide to move to another operator, we do not block it. Simply start a port-out request with your new operator, who initiates the process; we release the number in accordance with the SUTEL portability rules. As with porting in, keeping your account in good standing avoids unnecessary delays.
Requirements
- You must be the account holder of record (or duly authorized) for the numbers being ported.
- The account associated with the numbers must be in good standing.
- The numbers must be eligible for portability under the SUTEL regime.
